For it is in giving that we receive. - Francis of Assisi Once again the Onalaska High School Leadership Council provided gifts for 6 children for the Holiday Season. Each group is given a child to buy for and they make it a fun event often going shopping as a team. Then they displayed their gift wrapping talents during lunch. Good Evening, I wanted to let you know about an event that occurred this afternoon that caused our district to lockdown and then subsequently evacuate. At approximately 3:45 one of our staff members observed an individual with what appeared to be a rifle or long barreled weapon of some kind walking across the front of the campus before walking in the direction leading away from the District. The staff member immediately contacted the nearest available District employee and reported the information. At that time the District Secretary then contacted myself and our Elementary Principal. After a quick assessment, we phoned law enforcement and directed remaining administrators at the middle school to lock down until we could determine next steps. Law enforcement were in the area within minutes and saw nothing in the immediate proximity of the school. Knowing that, we asked both High School and Elementary/Middle school Administrators to evacuate the buildings and cancel all remaining evening activities in an abundance of caution. At approximately 5:15, a Deputy contacted me to let me know that an individual had been located and contacted. The weapon that the individual was carrying has been determined to be a pellet gun. Thankfully, we now know that students and staff were never in any real danger. However, we acted with the information we had at the time. We are thankful for the quick actions of our staff members, and the amazingly quick and thorough response from the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. Thank you and have a good evening, Brenda Padgett, Superintendent

Congratulations to Kaiyah Sandridge as she was honored WIAA Athlete of the Week last week for efforts in soccer and with the activities in the high school and community! Onalaska sophomore Kaiyah Sandridge just scored her second hat trick against Ocosta, helping the Lady Loggers qualify for their fifth consecutive State Tournament. Sandridge has been on the varsity squad since her eighth-grade year and is presently the Lady Loggers' leading assist maker and scorer with 15 goals on the season. Kaiyah also had a goal and a key assist in the Loggers win versus Tonasket in the State Playoffs. She's a 4.0 student and ASB vice-president, organizing most of the dances and helping with assemblies at her school. She plays an integral role in helping with a Thanksgiving Food Drive (organized by Kate Zandell). She also had a key part in establishing a student study hall. Later this year Kaiyah has plans for organizing a Blood Drive on campus. Sandridge is a very gifted student-athlete but also very involved in her school and community. Dennis Bower AD
